Location: Masai Mara

Perched on the saddle of a hill, the Mara Serena Safari Lodge has one of the most spectacular views imaginable across the vast plains, forests and rivers that make up the Masai Mara – one of the world’s richest wildlife sanctuaries and a great place to spot the "Big Five." It is on this very terrain that the annual migration takes place, when millions of zebra, wildebeest and gazelle cross the plains below, hotly pursued by hungry lion and hyena.  This is a spectacle that should be witnessed at least once in a lifetime.

The lodge has a sky-blue swimming pool perched on the edge of the hill, a restaurant that overlooks a waterhole where wildlife gather and several treatment rooms where you can enjoy a range of relaxing massages.  From the lodge you can organise a safari by balloon, a truly breathtaking experience, which finished with a satisfying breakfast on the plains. Other activities on offer include bush barbecues, game drives, evening cocktail parties at the waterhole, watching the hippos and traditional Masai dancing.

Rooms

There are 74 rooms in the Mara Serena, including 5 family rooms and one suite. All the accommodations have been designed so as to blend seamlessly into the landscape whilst offering magnificent Mara-views from the private verandas. As for the interiors, individually styled in exuberant bush colours they feature spacious bathrooms and the calm sophistication of a world-class hotel.  All rooms feature ceiling fans, 24 hour room service, hairdryer, safe and complimentary toiletries, and the Mara Suite has a separate lounge area, 3 private balconies, satellite TV and a private entrance.  The hotel has been designed to mirror a traditional Masai village or Manyatta and all the guest rooms are located in individual domed huts grouped in a circular manner.

Dining

The traditional Masai-themed dining room is decorated with cloaks and spears, and overlooks the Lodge's action-packed water hole as well as the rolling plains.  Adjoined to the restaurant is a vibrant bar area with outdoor seating.  You can expect a full breakfast menu, both cooked and continental, with the finest Kenyan teas and coffees, and a relaxed candlelit atmosphere during dinner.  You could even spend an evening out in the bush, sipping on cocktails made from the finest imported spirits.

Other facilities and activities include:
  • Complimentary mineral water and toiletries
  • Telephone and wifi connectivity
  • Swimming pool with sundeck
  • Sundowner cocktails
  • Dinner for two beside the Hippo Pool
  • Hot air balloon trips over the Mara
  • Complete wedding planning service
  • Honeymoon suite
  • Babysitting service on request, plus children's meals

Reviews & Testimonials of Mara Serena Safari Lodge

"Amazing Views"

We stayed for two nights at this lodge and it was fantastic. The room itself was great, it was a really good size with a king size bed and a mosquito net. The bathroom was also a really good size and had everything we needed. The view from the room was to die for, it looked out over the Masai Mara. We had a thunder storm whilst we were here and it was great to watch the lightening over the plains.

The food was served by the waiter at this lodge but you could also chose the buffet if you prefered. The food was nice enough and there was a fairly good choice for brekfast, lunch and dinner. The entertainment at the lodge was a guy playing his guitar and singing, it was good fun. We did not spend that much time at the lodge as we did not arrive until 7pm on the first night after lunch by the Mara river and a game drive and we did a whole day game drive the following day from 06.30am until 7pm. Breakfast was served aroung 8.45 and was again next to the Mara river with the Hippo's.

The game drives in the Masai Mara were outstanding, we saw the big 5 and much more including some Lion cubs which were about two months old. This was by far my favorite location on the Safari and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

"Outstanding Location"

We stayed here for 2 nights and wish it had been longer. Everything about it is fantastic. The views from our room were to die for, it seems the same from all the rooms because it is designed so cleverly. The room was spotless, the bathroom gorgeous, especially when you think that you are in the middle of the Masai Mara! We did the balloon flight from Governors Camp, not the one which you can book at the reception area at the hotel, and it was fantastic from start to finish.

It was the highlight of our holiday, views were breathtaking and a champagne breakfast in the Mara was the icing on the cake. We booked all of our safari with Neo Destinations, so a big thank you to Naphtally. Every single detail of our trip was planned and executed with professionalism and care and we could not have been happier with the service he provided. We would not hesitate to recommend Naphtally and his company to anyone.

He arranged for us to go to the Serena, and what a fantastic choice it was! Some of the best soup I have ever eaten, especially the Red Kidney Bean one. Charles was outstanding as the waiter around the pool, just a shame the pool was so cold! If you are thinking of going to the Serena, just stop thinking and go, you will not regret it!
