Location: Lake Eyasi

Kisima Ngeda Tented Camp is situated on the shores of Lake Eyasi – a seasonal soda lake in northern Tanzania.  Nestling in llala palm and acacia forest, the views from Kisima Ngeda are truly wonderful – across the sweep of the Great Rift Valley, with the wall of the Alipi escarpment rising 2000ft up into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Sitting at the edge of a natural spring which feeds the lake, Kisima Ngeda provides luxury tents, constructed almost entirely out of palms and trees from the camp’s own property.  Each tent sits on a wooden platform and under a palm-thatched roof, and is furnished with a hand-carved bed, enclosed bathroom and shower with hot water.  The views of the lake from the tents are beautiful.  Each tent has been carefully constructed to be low-impact, spacious, and of course comfortable.

Activities at Lake Eyasi are quite different from those offered on the average safari.  You can get out of your safari vehicle and really explore – trails around the lake, canoeing on the shore, mountain-biking through the trees and cultural encounters in nearby villages.  The chance to interact with the local tribes here is something really special.

The Datoga people, with their stunning and colourful attire, are a pastoral group like the Masai.  It is simply lovely to see one of their blacksmiths or home-makers work.  The Hadzabe bushmen, meanwhile, are hunter-gatherers who still speak with clicking – the language of the first human inhabitants of the continent.
